In 1946, Ambassador Escott Reid and his wife, Ruth, purchased 80 acres of meadows and forests in the heart of the Gatineau Hills in Quebec. This exceptional and beautiful property is bordered by a lake, a river and Gatineau Park. On the property was a barn in excellent condition, having been built only 10 years before from mellowed timbers taken from a much older structure.
In the 1970’s, after a distinguished career in Canada’s diplomatic service, the Reids tastefully converted The Barn into a comfortable and charming retirement residence that includes a fascinating library. Since then, their descendents have been preserving and embellishing the beauty of The Barn, which is becoming increasingly popular as a gathering place for extended families and groups.
